Thomas James Obituary

Thomas A. James passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 a few days shy of his 87th birthday, at Capital Health Regional Medical Center, Trenton, New Jersey.

Thomas was born December 2, 1936, in Brooklyn, New York to the late Arther and Bassie James. Thomas was the eldest of there sons. The youngest, Douglas, preceded him in death. Thomas was educated in the New York school system in Brooklyn, graduating from the Metropolitan High School. Thomas was married to Jacolia James and was father to seven children.

Thomas served in the US Air Force and the Army National Guard. Moving to Reading, PA, he opened a bar and a Record store before moving to Trenton NJ. He loved a good book, jazz (Miles and Coltrane), tinkering around with computers and spending time with family. He was strong-will and direct, yet you always sensed his protective side.

Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Jacolia, three children, daughter, Shahidah (Kathy), two sons, Thomas and Edward.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory, brother, William James (Brooklyn, NY), his children, Valarie, Lynda, Theresa and Darrin; 18 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, several great- great grandchildren  and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Thomas’ wishes were to be cremated and his ashes taken to Virginia to be reunited with his wife.
